Default Yet another introduction

Hello everyone! I am an American sailor who enjoys watching movies on the internet while I am ashore. I bring this question to you all though, please see if you can follow my logic...

You pay for cable tv
You pay for internet access
You can watch movies on tv
You can watch movies online
You can record/tivo/whatever movies on your tv
you get fined for downloading movies online...

What's the deal with that... it just doesn't quite make sense to me. If the movie really is that good then I'll probably go buy a real copy anyway; for example Transformers in HD... you just can't get that kind of quality for free online. So can anyone tell me why exactly it is that we aren't supposed to download movies?
